In A Dance of Cloaks by David Dalglish, we are introduced to the city of Veldaren, a place ruled by the ruthless Thren Felhorn, the head of the criminal underworld. Thren is a master assassin, feared by all, and he has trained his son, Aaron, to follow in his footsteps. Aaron, however, is not as cold-hearted as his father and struggles with his role in the criminal empire.
Thren has a vision of uniting all the criminal guilds under his rule, and he begins to execute his plan, which involves a series of brutal assassinations. Aaron, who is expected to play a key role in his father's plans, is torn between his loyalty to his father and his own moral compass. He is also dealing with the loss of his beloved brother, who was killed by Thren for showing signs of weakness.
