A Dark Year for Harry
In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, J.K. Rowling thrusts us into a darker, more mature wizarding world. Harry is haunted by nightmares from his encounter with Lord Voldemort. He's isolated and shunned, not only due to his remote location with the Dursleys but also because the wizarding community doesn't fully believe his account of Voldemort's return.
The Ministry of Magic, under the influence of Cornelius Fudge, smears Harry and Dumbledore in the media, casting doubt on their claims. As school starts, Harry's isolation grows. He's cut off from his friends, suffers under a new vindictive teacher, Dolores Umbridge, and starts advanced Defence Against the Dark Arts lessons with Snape.
The Order and Dumbledore's Army
Harry learns about the Order of the Phoenix, a secret organization led by Dumbledore, opposing Voldemort. He also discovers the existence of a prophecy implicating him and Voldemort. Frustrated with the lack of real defense lessons, Harry, Hermione, and Ron form Dumbledore's Army, a secret student group practicing Defense Against the Dark Arts. Harry's impulsive decision has grave consequences in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. They battle Death Eaters, including the notorious Bellatrix Lestrange. The Order of the Phoenix intervenes, but not before Sirius Black is killed by Bellatrix, leaving Harry devastated.
The climax sees Dumbledore dueling Voldemort before the Minister for Magic and other officials apparate into the Ministry, forcing Voldemort to flee but also proving the truth – He Who Must Not Be Named is back.
