Ruth also reveals that Derek is pressuring her to sell the ruby to fund his failing business.

As the train journey progresses, Ruth is found murdered in her compartment, and the ruby is missing. The prime suspect is Derek, who was seen boarding the train in disguise. However, Derek has an alibi, as he was seen in Paris at the time of the murder.
