Setne leads the Kanes to the Land of the Dead, where they must retrieve the Book of Thoth, an ancient spellbook that holds the key to defeating Apophis. Despite the dangers, the Kanes manage to retrieve the book and escape the Land of the Dead.
Back in the mortal world, the Kanes and Setne begin to decipher the spells in the Book of Thoth. They learn that they need to create a shadow execration, a powerful magical weapon, to destroy Apophis. However, the spell requires a rare and dangerous ingredient: the blood of a magician who has died and returned to life.
A Desperate Plan and a Dangerous Gamble
The Kanes realize that the only way to obtain the blood they need is to travel to the Duat, the realm of the gods, and retrieve it from the source. They hatch a daring plan to infiltrate the Duat and steal the blood from the fountain of renewal. However, their plan goes wrong, and Sadie is captured by Apophis, leaving Carter and their friends to face the serpent alone.
Desperate to save his sister and defeat Apophis, Carter makes a dangerous gamble. He uses the shadow execration spell to create a magical copy of himself, which he sends to fight Apophis while he goes to rescue Sadie. The plan works, and the shadow Carter manages to destroy Apophis, saving the world from eternal darkness.
The Aftermath and New Beginnings
With Apophis defeated, the world is safe once again. However, the victory comes at a cost. The shadow Carter sacrifices himself to destroy Apophis, and the real Carter is left mourning the loss of his magical double. Despite the bittersweet ending, the Kanes and their friends are hopeful for the future.
