    Summary of key ideas

    Beginning of the Day

In Dog's Colorful Day by Emma Dodd, we meet a white dog with a black spot on his left ear. He starts his day off with a walk and when he comes back, he has a new spot of red jam on his right ear. This is the first of the many colorful spots he'll collect through the day.

As he goes about his day, he manages to get a blue spot of paint on his left leg, a green spot of grass on his right leg, a brown spot of mud on his back, a pink spot of ice cream on his nose, and a yellow spot of custard on his tail. With each spot, he looks more and more like a walking, wagging rainbow.

    Middle of the Day

Midday, Dog goes for another walk. This time, he meets a little girl with a purple balloon. Curious as he is, Dog jumps up to greet her, accidentally popping the balloon and getting a purple spot on his side. He then meets a man with a big bucket of water. Excited, he jumps up and gets a spot of water on his head.

As the day progresses, Dog's colorful spots grow in number and variety. He's now got ten spots in total, each a different color, and he's still got a few hours of play left before his day is over.

    End of the Day

As the sun starts to set, Dog returns home. His owner gives him a bath, and one by one, the colorful spots start to disappear. The jam, paint, grass, mud, ice cream, custard, and water all wash away, leaving only the original black spot on his ear.

With a wag of his tail, Dog is clean and ready for bed. He might have had a very colorful day, but now he's back to his original self. The story ends with Dog snuggling up in his bed, dreaming about all the fun he'll have tomorrow.

    In Conclusion

Dog's Colorful Day is a delightful picture book that teaches children about colors and counting in a fun and engaging way. The adorable illustrations and the simple, repetitive text make it perfect for young readers. It's a heartwarming tale that reminds us that no matter how messy things get, a good bath can wash it all away.
